The Raoul volcano massif is over twice the area of the island extending off the seafloor and has a total volume of . Denham caldera's long axis is parallel to the tectonic fabric of the Havre Trough that lies west of the volcanic arc. There is a large undersea caldera about to the northeast of the island in the volcanic edifice.
